Add Flow Rate Sensor

The HYDROS Flow Sensors are easy-to-install flow meters that communicate to the HYDROS app the flow rate of water passing through it. It is safe for use in freshwater and saltwater aquarium systems.

The HYDROS Flow Sensors can be used for reactor feed lines and return pumps. Using the HYDROS Flow Sensors can give you peace of mind that your vital aquarium equipment is operating correctly. You can also use the data it collects in the HYDROS app to create rules. For example, if the flow rate is above or below a certain threshold, you can have HYDROS turn off a piece of equipment plugged into a Control XP8, Power 4 WiFi power strip, or Smart Plug outlet.

Adding a Flow Rate Sensor is very simple.

Step 1: Physically Connect the Sensor

  1. Connect the sensor to your Control unit’s Sense Port (GREEN).
  2. Safely install the sensor in your aquarium plumbing.

Step 2: Create the INPUT Sensor

  1. From the STATUS screen, tap on the three horizontal dots to the right of the INPUTS label.
  2. Select “Add New Input”
  3. Tap on the + symbol in the bottom-right corner
  4. Enter the name you wish to assign to your input and tap “Create.”

Step 3: Configure INPUT Sensor

  • Type: Select Sense Port
  • Sense Mode: Select “Flow Rate Sensor”
  • Sense Port: Select the port number where you physically connected the input sensor
  • Flow Rate Model: Select the model that matches the sensor you are installing
  • Safe Range: This is your ideal flow range.  If the flow goes outside this level, the INPUT icon in the status screen will turn RED, and if enabled below, the controller will send out a notification.
  • Graph Value Limits: It allows you to set the maximum and minimum values on the Graph view.
  • Notification Level: This option allows you to specify what notification level you would like to receive.  You will receive notifications when
    • The flow rate is outside the Safe Range
    • Control has lost connection to the sensor
  • Is Invisible: If you choose to hide the input from the status screen, it will only become visible on pages that have “Show Invisible” selected.

Step 4: Upload Changes

Once you have configured your INPUT, tap on the yellow bar at the bottom of the screen to upload your changes to the cloud and the individual HYDROS devices.

Rename Input & Change Icon

  • From the STATUS screen, tap on the Input you wish to modify.
  • On the popup, tap on the “Gear” icon on the bottom right.
  • From the Input setup page, tap on the “Pencil” icon on the top left.
