Add a Pump

Direct Drive allows you to connect an IceCap Gyre pump directly to your IceCap Dual Pump Controller (ICDPC), allowing it to power and control the powerhead. It eliminates the need for that pump’s external controller and power brick. That’s right! The ICDPC can power up to 2 water pumps simultaneously. Imagine all of the clutter you can clear out of your stand!

ICDPC Direct Drive compatible pumps are:

  • IceCap Gyre 1K
  • IceCap Gyre 2K
  • IceCap Gyre 3K
  • IceCap Gyre 4K

What you will need to get started

  • Direct Drive compatible pump

Step 1: Connecting your pump to the ICDPC

  • Connect your pump’s motor block to one of the Direct Drive ports on your ICDPC.

Step 2: Configure Your New Pump

Now that you have connected the pumps to the controller, you have to tell the controller where the pump is and the model.

To add a pump, do the following:

  • Start the HYDROS app and go to the main menu. To do this, tap on the three horizontal bars in the upper left-hand corner.
  • Select OUTPUTS
  • Tap on the “+” symbol at the bottom-right of the page.
  • Type in the name of the Output/Pump and tap on Create.
  • PUMP MODEL – Under Pump Model, select the model of your pump. For example, if you have a 0-10V pump, then choose 0-10V.
  • SPEED RANGE –  It is the MASTER flow control for your pump and will dictate the Max and Min speed of the pump, REGARDLESS of what pattern it runs.
TIP: Think of this master control as a Governor. If you create a flow pattern that runs the pump in the 1-100% range, but the MASTER flow is 25-75%, then 1% would run the pump at 25%, and 100% would run it at 75%.
  • OUTPUT DEVICE – You tell the controller which terminal the pump is connected to.
  • INVERT ROTATION – Sometimes, you may want a “Propeller” pump to run in invert rotation. An example would be the OctoPulse pumps, which create fascinating patterns when run in reverse.
  • REVERSE SPEED RANGE –  It is the same as the Speed Range, but when running the pump in reverse.
  • ALLOW REVERSE – This feature is available on some Pumps. If you select this, the pump will run forward and backward.

Step 4: Save your new settings

  • Tap the yellow bottom band to upload your changes to the cloud and the ICDPC.
